Optimizing Product Interfaces in French and English

Practical field notes for developers and designers building localized product pages and user interfaces in bilingual markets.

Building product pages in French and English requires flexible layouts because the same idea can take a different amount of space in each language. Avoid fixed-width controls where possible, and test buttons, navigation labels, and cards with both versions before release.

For form labels and interface messages, prefer direct wording in both languages. Review each version in its own context instead of translating marketing expressions word for word, since a natural instruction in one language can sound awkward in the other.

Use a consistent typographic hierarchy across language choices. Check that the selected fonts display French accents clearly, and give headings, labels, and helper text enough room to wrap without hiding meaning.

Audit error states, tooltips, empty states, and success messages alongside the main page copy. A complete review should catch places where the interface falls back to the wrong language or gives a different instruction after an action.
